Ag Day Educates Oly Students

At the end of every school year, the OHS FFA chapter holds an Ag Day to teach kids from all three elementary schools about agriculture related topics; this year it was held on Friday, May 11 and nearly 500 elementary students enjoyed the day.

Ag day is broken into many different types of informationals stations. The stations have a wide range in topics from safety to a petting zoo. No matter what the kids are learning about, there is always a smile on their face.

The high schoolers enjoy teaching the elementary kids just as much as they do. The OHS students have been preparing for many weeks putting together this event.

Two of the favorite station from this year’s Ag Day was the large equipment and welding. The welding equipment was able to be utilized since Ag Day was moved to the other side of the school which was really nice because FFA just recently got more welders. The large equipment was also really cool to the young kids who enjoys big tractors and other cool equipment.

Junior Lane Miller said, “The kids seemed to the large equipment and seeing how things work.”

Members hope to keep the welding as part of the learning station because it was something new for the kids to see. Moving Ag Day to the practice football field also allowed more room for the petting zoo and a overall more open set up.

Junior Jessie Ladew said,” The kids really enjoyed watching the welding and I feel they learned a lot from it.”

Thanks to all of the guest at Ag Day and we hope to keep informing the younger generation of what ag is all about.
