At the June Board meeting, the Olympia Board of Education approved the purchase of 4 buses, each with 20,000 miles or fewer, which equates to one year of usage for buses in the Olympia School District fleet. Each of these buses are priced at $79,500, which is considerably less than brand new buses that have been priced at $149,000 per bus.
The board also approved trading in the four buses that are pictured with this article. These buses (Bus 2, Bus 15, Bus 27, and Bus 30) have a combined 48 years of experience and over 935,000 miles safely transporting Olympia students to and from school and extracurricular events. Buses 2, 15, and 30 each will have over 240,000 miles on them when they are eventually traded in. The district would like to thank the district mechanics, Mr. Brad Kelso and Mr. Frankie Boyd, for all of their efforts to keep these buses rolling! The district is looking forward to introducing the new vehicles to our fleet this Fall.
