Students

On Tuesday, April 23rd, 8th grade students from OMS took a field trip to Heartland Community College (HCC) and Eureka College (EC).

At HCC, students took a tour of three different buildings including the new Agriculture Complex; the Advanced Manufacturing Center; and the Fitness and Recreation Center. The day before the field trip, they listened to a presentation about the college in the OHS auditorium.

At Eureka College, the students watched a virtual tour (since it was pouring down rain) in the Cerf Center, and then had an extensive Question and Answer session with an EC staff member and a current EC student. Our students asked some intriguing questions and showed a general interest in the college and what it has to offer. After this, they ate lunch and then played a Eureka College Trivia game to see what they remembered from the presentation.

Overall, despite the rainy weather, the 8th graders had a very good day learning about these two local colleges and all they have to offer them, starting as soon as their junior year at OHS when they can take dual-credit courses through HCC if they choose to do so.
