
5th Graders at South practiced figurative language today by creating valentines.


2R finished up their money unit today by counting values of coins That were posted all around the room. They earned money each time they got a problem correct. Tomorrow we will "buy" fun prizes with the money that we earned! #OlySpartanPride

2R is working so hard on Word Study! We are doing a speed sort and finding different patterns to put our words in groups!




Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? That's the question third graders have been trying to solve. Students use their geography skills to narrow down where the elusive Carmen could be based on clues given. So far they've found her every time!





On Friday, Mrs. Gray wrapped up the week with a couple of polar bear explorations! We read the book “Ice Bear” and spent the week adding to our schema. On Friday, first graders participated in a stem challenge to create a polar bear den using jumbo and mini marshmallows with toothpicks. They also got to experience how a polar bear’s fat protects them from cold. They put their hands in a bowl of ice water. After, they put their hands in a bag of crisco to simulate the bear’s layers of fat. The students were impressed that they could no longer feel the cold water!





Second grade has been talking about deposit and withdrawal in terms of $$
Today we "deposited" kind words in our "emotional" bank.

A small town author just like us is stopping for a visit today to talk to our creative young authors at South! First graders have their wheels spinning coming up with story ideas!



Preschool is loving learning about the post office this week. One of our friends brought mail in that he received from Hawaii!


2nd grade going on a word hunt in their books! This week we were looking for ee, ea, and short e words! They found so many inside of their own books!





Second graders reviewed character traits and wrote Words From the Heart to describe all of our friends in our room. #olyspartanpride





Second grade has been learning to count money in Word Problems. Today we tread Alexander Who Use to be Rich Last Sunday. We kept track of the change that he lost and totaled it all up at the end!



Preschool loved having a Mystery Reader today!
